A ceramic vase inspired by the harbour at Ilfracombe. There is the side which becomes very busy in the high season with cafes, shops and attractions, with the parking and fishing boats on the other. This is the side my path takes me into this beautiful seaside town. Down the steep grassy hillside, cutting along the footpath at the bottom of people's gardens and skirting past the road, it is like a secret pathway. Coming out by a small cove and then on to Ilfracombe itself, the path opens onto a carpark and then past the working fishing harbour. In winter the senses are muted and yet the nets and ropes still hold the ghost of their purpose. Diesel and fish, idle lobster pots and tarmac.
Made using smooth white clay, brushed and mono-printed slips, wax crayon and ceramic pencil and matt white and clear glazes to finish. Stoneware-fired with clear glaze interior.
