Bella has been heard to say her life without art would be a life less worthy, and her drive to observe and create has been a form of constant communication which will never cease.

Bella’s oil painting work largely looks at the surrounding countryside where she lives.  Influenced by ancient landscapes and woodland, she takes an optical angle of that around her, enjoying a strong sense of play.  She also pushes an image to mixed media where India inks, pastel and water colour are used to a magical effect.  Bella’s work often has a visceral effect and her strive for this is an on-going one.

Spending three years working almost exclusively in artisan printmaking, hand cutting lino and printing, she has recently explored the use of carborundum in collagrph and is currently creating a collection of new art prints based on Neolithic and ancient landscapes.

Bella strongly believes in the power of sketching and has given talks on her method of work and ethos behind the conception and creation of art and why it is important to her.

Accolades:

All of the work on this project site displays a mastery of the medium of linocut. The delicacy of line and the application of creative texture takes this medium to a new level because we often associate linocut printing with heavy line and blocking. Not only is the artistic element displayed in the quality of the drawing but each element captures that which is the most difficult to capture, atmosphere.

The thing that is really impressive about Bella's work is that she has broken free of the restraints that can confine an artist. She is a visual explorer with an extensive creative imagination and is fearless in the way that she will try any technique to produce her images. It is art for the sake of art.
