The title of this post in a little incongruous as the piece has not been anywhere near fire. It has instead been glazed with the intention of creating a crackled finish which is then stained to throw the surface into sharp relief. It is not a service piece which can be used at all, rather a piece of art for display only.

Made using the slab method, this smooth white clay fired to a beautiful finish which is perfect for what was in mind. Knowing the glaze would flake fairly randomly, white engobe was added as a detail, rather then relying on the glaze itself, as I wanted this small area to remain smooth.
A smaller piece was made to as well, which has a more smoky look.
