Night draws in

We're not quite there yet, that part of the year when the nights take over from day. We are instead at that calm moment when days are warm and sunny, nights with a touch of frost and equal measures with daylight. Quite possibly my favourite time of year.

Ilfracombe harbour, pastel sketch

Pastels in a sketchbook. There is a sense of power when working with thick pastels on a small area such as a sketchbook. Each swipe of pastel takes up a proportionally large area of paper making each like a statement, and a loud one at that. This sketch must have taken all of 5 minutes, if not less. (It is hard to gauge when concentrating on a study).

I liked the pleasing sweep of colour as the wet sand of the emptying harbour reflected low light.

Being an occasional visitor to this corner of the West Country, I will soon be here permanently.
