Copper plate, side A and the flipside


It's not that copper plates are so expensive they need to be justified, it is more that experimentation is fun.

Having used the main side of the plate, which was filed, whiting added and ground or pen carefully applied, it came to my attention that the other side was being neglected. It is normal practise to blank off the back side, but it seemed a missed opportunity to do something a little more experimental.

Here's the same plate printed in different colours (above), and here's the flipside of this one and another, below.

I've had some fun, you can see. Neither are images I would necessarily buy a plate for, but this raw, unprepared take on the bold main side is like a tonic to the hard edges.

All are printed on 250 gsm Fabriano using oil-based relied inks and the large workshop etching press.
